Water
We have been awarded a Grassroots Grant of $500 to help create the irrigation system
3 Day history of precipitation for New York City
During the growing season, the rule of thumb for most plants call for an inch of water a week. This works out to 20 gallons of water a week for a 8'x4' bed. When to water: if total rainfall is less than 1 inch in the last 7 days, we need to water. This decision depends on individual beds as well as how long ago the rain fell (for example, if 1 inch fell 7 days ago and no rain since, then please water, if forecast does not predict significant rainfall). This decision also depends on levels in the storage barrels. We have an Irrigation system with a quick connect for Hydrant connections. The system has been working well, if hooked up, leave the drip system on for 1-3 hrs a week. All boxes except for two are connected up to the system. We will be expanding the coverage with with more drip hoses in the woodland area.
